BLUEBERRY AMBASSADOR MOMENTS
Flushing Elms Elementary, coordinator Christy MacWebb
My first moment is not a huge one but I helped make someone’s day better and happier and that’s what being a Blueberry is all about! So, at my cheer competition we needed to get pop for a team bonding exercise and there was a lady in front of us and she dropped her change! So, I gave her a hand by picking up her change and I felt great because she had a huge smile on her face. So, I made her day better and mine all in one!
My grandma, grandpa and I went to Latina’s and the person at the table next to us looked kind of sad and had little food. When I noticed, I asked everyone at mytable if they wanted anymore food. They looked at each other and said no, so I walked over to the man’s table and asked if he wanted some more food and he had a grin from ear to ear. When I saw that I made his day seeing him smile, it made my day too.
For my last Blueberry Moment, I wanted to make someone happy that I thought was having a worse day than anybody else that I gave my Blueberry Cards. So, I went to Black Rock in Lansing Michigan for a celebration dinner and our server was very grumpy and it made me feel bad for her. I carry around my Blueberry Cards and it just so happened I had my doodling notebook because I was drawing. So, on top of the check I made her a card with a picture. I said how thankful I was and how good of a server she was and I attached my Blueberry Card. I left knowing I made someone’s day better so it made me feel better about myself.
For this Blueberry Moment, I gave back to the less fortunate. I did this by taking a wishlist from the giving tree at my church. The person I chose from the tree was a 23 year old man. He asked for a nice warm hoodie, a new pair of jeans, a pair of gloves, and a hat. While I was out Christmas shopping, I asked my dad if I could pick up a few things for him. He said yes and I guessed on what he would like. After buying all the gifts, I took them home wrapped them and turned them into my church. I didn’t realize how important my deed was until we watched a video in positivity project about a homeless man. It makes me so happy how something like twenty dollars can be so useful. To us twenty dollars is not that much because we have more. On the other hand, to people that have less twenty dollars is a lot. I chose this idea because it’s important to give back!
For my second Blueberry Moment, I decided to thank someone who normally doesn’t get any appreciation, but now, more than ever she needs a big fat thank you! The mail lady helps us a lot by bringing us our bills and delivering notes to/from our loved ones, But at the moment she is doing it all without pay! So that’s why I went out to my favorite bakery Marcella’s. After buying a banana nut muffin we headed over to Kroger and bought her a small bottle of lemonade. Attached to the paper bag from Marcella’s I left a note that read: Dear Mail Lady, I’m part of a group called the Blueberry Ambassadors and we focus on doing kind things for others. I’d like to use one of mine on you because I understand you’re not getting paid right now due to the unfortunate government shutdown. So, I’m leaving you a thank you gift. The next morning, I gently laid the white paper bag down in our family’s mail box. I chose this idea because I figured without her responsibility and kindness to continue her job without being payed. We would all be in trouble. No one knows what’s going on at her house or what struggles she may be going through. All I know is that sometimes everyone needs a thank you!
For my third and final Blueberry Moment I decided to appreciate my best friend. I accomplished this by buying her a cookie from subway. Along with a note that said. Thank you, for being my friend so I will always have someone to laugh with. In return I received a smile, a hug and a thank you, and that’s all I could ever ask for. Her reaction to my gift sparked an idea in my mind. That idea is that the things we do really affect people. But we decide if it affects them negatively or positively. There is a reason that this blueberry idea was the one I chose. It’s because Ashley does everything in her power to make me feel good inside. So if there is something I can do to make her feel the same way, you bet I will do it.
One day, my friend and I were playing outside and we saw garbage on the ground. My friend said, “Hey why don’t we pick up that garbage.” “Better yet why don’t we pick up garbage around the whole neighborhood,” I said. “That’s a great idea,” my friends said. So, then we asked my mom if it was okay if we could use some garbage bags to pick up garbage. She replied, “Sure that sounds good!” So, my friend and I went around the neighborhood and started to pick up things. We found a lot of things like glass bottles, plastic, pop cans etc. As I was putting garbage into the bag, a lady passed by and she smiled at me and looked happy. At that moment, I knew that maybe I inspired that lady or maybe I just made her feel good. It put a smile on my face and I felt happy and good. In just two hours we filled up seven big garbage bags full of garbage. It was so easy to pick up garbage and it didn’t take a long time to do it either. I was happy that I did it because it was just a little thing that could make a big difference on the environment and that maybe I inspired someone else to do the same too.
One time, me and my family went to a restaurant and we wanted to do something nice. So, we paid for this gentleman’s food. It was anonymous so he didn’t know it was us. The waiter said that someone already paid for him meal. The man was really surprised and he has a smile on his face and he also was looking around and wondered who did that. After we left the restaurant, I felt really happy that me and my family did that. It was an amazing feeling and I would want to do it again.
A few months ago around Christmas, I was at a grocery store with my dad. We gave a drink and some chips to this lady who had a bell and was collecting money for charity. So, we gave her the drink and chips and she had the biggest smile on her face and she said, “Wow that was so kind of you guys you didn’t have to do that.” I replied, “No problem it felt good to do it too.” The lady said, “Thank you.” I said you’re welcome and I had a huge smile on my face and felt amazing. Just doing a small thing makes my heart feel very big and happy.
I helped someone get their bags in their car at the store. I chose to help them because it doesn’t have to be a person you know and it doesn’t have to be someone important. It can be a random person that could be having the worst day ever and you made their day. So that’s why I decided to help this person with their grocery bags.
I was so happy when I did my Blueberry Moment because I had made others grateful that they have great people around them. They were so happy when I shoveled their driveway for them and I was happy to do it. It was such an amazing feeling and experience for me to be able to do something for someone who isn’t able and hopefully someday I can make someone feel that way again. I hope more people can do their own random acts of kindness.
On December 9th, me and my family went to Walmart and got three toys and took them to Menards then put them in the Toys for Tots bin. Doing that made me feel really happy, but I am pretty sure that it made the other kid happy.
In December, me and my family went to the bell ringers in the front of a store and gave them hot chocolate. It made me and my family happy so did the bell ringer. I wonder if they drank it all and I hope to do it again next year.
My last Blueberry Moment is one time I helped my sister when she was really sad and I said we should play a game to get her mind off of what she was sad about and she said ok. So, we played hide and seek and she felt happy which made me happy.
For my Blueberry Moment, I shoveled the snow in my driveway and some of my neighbor’s driveway when she was gone. I also did a little bit of the road to help out a little bit because the snow was so deep.
What I did was I got a bag and I had a letter put my Blueberry Card and the letter in the bag with some money and I sat it on the table. I was at the mall with my mom and my brothers.
For my last Blueberry Moment, I helped my uncle with his daycare. I had to keep the kids safe like the babies and I played with them and made them happy I had a lot of fun and in the summer I go over there everyday. My uncle said I do very good with the kids.
