Blueberry Moment 16286
During school, I sometimes tutor students who need help in math. I do this because I figure that I can lend a hand to someone who’s struggling. They usually get quite happy that I agree to help them. Some people admit to feeling embarrassed about continuously asking the teacher for help. When I first started doing this, I was nervous because I wasn’t sure if I was being helpful or not. In my process of helping, I usually ask them questions such as, what makes them confused or where do they get lost? I’ve found that doing that gives me a clear idea on what I need to explain. So, after they thank me and say “Ohhhhh” (I get that one a lot), I become relieved that I was successful in my attempt to be helpful.

Blueberry Moment 16287
As the day goes on, we usually get caught up in our own ways and forget to acknowledge others. So, I decided to give many people compliments throughout the day because why not? Why not spread uplifting positivity? I got many different reactions such as awkward laughter, shy denial, surprised thank you’s and so forth. No matter how people reacted initially they always ended up happy and that’s all that matters. It fills me with joy to make another person’s day better, even by doing such a small thing.

Blueberry Moment 16290
A lady was struggling to balance the items in her hand as she approached the door. I wasn’t doing much of anything, besides fidgeting with my phone. So, I figured doors are very easy to open and the process of opening them require little effort, so I quickly walked to grab the door. As she passed through, she let out a small sigh of relief and gave a shy thank you. It delights me that a simple thing can make someone happy for just a moment or even the rest of their day.

I took care of my mother when she was restoring back to health after her surgery. We don’t have many family members that will help out at a time in need, so I decided to help with this situation. The reason behind this moment was to aid her back to her normal self. Also, if I was in her shoes feeling the pain she endured, I would want her to help me too. Afterwards, when she returned to her regular self, she had responded by being thankful for me and taking the responsibility to help her. In conclusion, after the whole event I felt good that I was able to nurse my mom back to her original self.

Blueberry Moment 16208
I babysat my nieces and nephews for a weekend. I wanted to give their parents a break and a moment to themselves. Their parents responded by being appreciative for me being thoughtful about how hard it is for them to take care of five kids. Another reason I decided to babysit was because I felt that people with numerous kids need a break to themselves or something that lets them clear their thoughts and be worry free about many things. Afterwards, I was exhausted but I was glad that I helped enough for the parents to rest and be in a good state of mind.

Blueberry Moment 16207
I volunteered to help my niece with her homework when her parents were busy with the other kids. The reason I helped her was so she can be prepared and successful when she goes to school. After, she was grateful that I gave her help when she was struggling. She gave me a paper art piece that she made to show her appreciation. Lastly, I felt good that I showed her that I will always be there to help when no else can.

I went with my friend to go buy lunch. When we got to the restaurant, she ordered her food. As she was looking for her money, she noticed that she was short a dollar. So, I offered her one of my dollars and insisted that she take it. I offered because if it was me needing the dollar, I would want her to do it for me. She didn’t want to take the dollar, but I wasn’t talking no for an answer. I felt great after I showed a true act of kindness.

Blueberry Moment 16212
My focus teacher has a disability. She limps around with her hand on her back and cane. She walks back and forth to the office during her planning hour. I went to the office to see what was going on in the office and as I was passing her, she asked me to come and do her a favor. She asked me if I could take a pile of paper to another teacher and I said that I would. I did it for many different reasons. One reason is because I know it’s a lot for her walking back and forth everyday all the time. She never asks for much, so I wanted to help her. She was very thankful for me taking one of her errands off her plate. I felt normal because I’m always willing to help people.

Blueberry Moment 16211
I’m in 11th grade and I am mentoring two 9th grade students. I help them find any classes that they may need help finding, answer any questions, and help them with their work. So, one of the students that I’m mentoring was struggling but he didn’t want to express it to me. So, I came to him letting him know that I’m here for him this is what being a mentor is about. I did it because I was assigned them and because I genuinely care for them. He was understanding and told me if he needed help that he would come to me. I felt good because I’m truly a helpful person and I’m succeeding. I want them to succeed with me.

For my first random act of kindness, I helped my neighbor feed her birds. Now that doesn’t sound like much, but there’s a little more to it than that. About four days ago, my mom got a call from our neighbor, who our family had known for about six years now. Our neighbor said she needed help feeding the birds after she got some different types of birdseed. She said she wouldn’t be able to get the birdseed today, but I still agreed to help her. After she hung up, I asked my mom, “Why don’t we help her out and go to the store and buy the birdseed for her?”. My mom thought it was a great idea and our neighbor was surprised to hear it. Later that day our neighbor wrote down a list and gave it to my mom, who then texted the list to my cell phone. My mom dropped me off at the pet store and I went in to find the four different types of birdseed our neighbor wanted. I bought the items and the next day I brought it down to her house. She was very happy to see me and gave me a hug. Me and my brother helped empty the birdseed into the bins she had out and then filled up the various bird feeders around her house. I was happy to help my neighbor and it felt good to know I was helping out someone, while making sure our neighbor could relax and enjoy her Saturday.

Blueberry Moment 16235
For my second random act of kindness, I helped shovel my grandmother’s snow in front of her house and driveway. My grandmother sometimes isn’t really able to shovel snow herself, so me and my brothers volunteered. There wasn’t that much snow, but I still was willing to help, and my grandmother was happy to know someone would shovel for her. I felt happy to help my family and to prevent my grandmother from having to call someone else or hurt herself shoveling.

Blueberry Moment 16234
For my third random act of kindness, I cleaned up some food that was dropped on our school’s staircase by a student. Our school has three flights of stairs to get to the main level of our building with two sets of double-doors, and the food was on the second set of steps. I was walking up the stairs when a kid dropped his wrap and kept walking, going through a set of doors. Its contents were spilled over the three steps below where the wrap was. I almost stepped on it, but I picked it up and put the wrap in the trash. Later, I went to the bathroom and got some paper towels to clean up the bits of food. I could have kept walking, but I didn’t want to have the kid possibly get in trouble if a teacher saw the mess, or for it to just sit there until the end of the day. I then went through the door to the main floor and found the kid talking to someone. I stopped him and told him I cleaned up the spill, then he replied saying he was going to come back, but he would be late for his class. After his first hour, he thanked me and made his way to his next class. I was happy to help clean up and I didn’t want anyone to kick the sandwich over the floor or down the steps.

Blueberry Moment 16256
These two ladies went over a curb and all the stuff that was on the cart fell off. So, I went to go pick some of it up. I did it because it would’ve been rude to just bypass it and it was a lot of stuff and if it was me, I would’ve wanted someone to help me. They said thank you with a smile. I felt good because it is always good to do a good thing for someone. It also made me smile because knowing that they appreciated me because they didn’t have to pick it up on their own.

Blueberry Moment 16255
In ASHP class, we were assigned a pretty difficult assignment, and a lot of people didn’t understand. I was one of the students that did understand very well, so I helped out a few of my classmates and they did a good job on it with my help. I did this because they’re my friends and it’s not a big deal to help my friends and I don’t want my friends to fail especially if I know how to do it. They were very appreciative for it and they thanked me. I feel it’s always good to help somebody succeed on something they were having trouble with and it’s a good thing because I helped.

Blueberry Moment 16254
My mom has three jobs now and it’s hard to keep up with the dog like she used to. Her dog has a specific schedule that she has to follow. I understood that it was going to be trouble, so I stepped up and helped her out. I did this because she’s my mom and she does everything for me so it wouldn’t hurt for me to do something nice for her. She responded by telling me that she appreciated it because she didn’t have to ask me to, I just did it on my own. It felt good to do something for my mom because I can’t give her everything she deserves and the little things count.

Blueberry Moment 16246
I helped Michael with his English work. He was struggling with the packet in class, so I agreed to help him. I did this because I don’t like seeing people struggle with work. I know I don’t like it so why would I not help him? It’s just the simple courtesy thing to do. Michael responded with a thank you and it felt nice to help him out.

Blueberry Moment 16250
This card was given to Angel. Once again it was helping with a subject. Instead of English, it was Geometry. I helped him because I could tell he was struggling by his expressions, so I stepped in and helped him out. He was very appreciative and I felt helpful afterwards.

Blueberry Moment 16247
The last card was given to Kandice. This card had nothing to do with classes. Just a simple need for help. She was carrying heavy items to take to a teacher and struggled to open the door. Once I saw her, she asked if I help? Of course, I said yes and carried some items and even opened the door. Once finished, she was greatly appreciative and even said thank you, while smiling. It felt enjoyable to help her out and it also felt good to know that I could help her.

Blueberry Moment 16278
I forgot to get a new bus pass, so I had to pay for a transfer when I got on the first bus. Since my second bus didn’t really check for bus passes or anything, I gave it to a woman that I had seen pay to get on the bus earlier. She only had enough for one ride, so they didn’t give her a transfer. I offered her mine with the Blueberry Card and she smiled and thanked me. I didn’t ask her for her name which I should have. It took a lot for me just to approach her. I’m glad I did because it made me feel good knowing that I helped someone with something important to them because she could’ve been stranded.

Blueberry Moment 16282
After getting food, my mom went to a gas station and there was a homeless man and I don’t think he could talk because he kept making gestures towards his mouth. We had asked him what it was that he needed and my sister and I realized that he was saying he needed food. We gave him some of the food we just bought from Rally’s and I gave him the Blueberry Card. I wanted to help even though it wasn’t the grandest gesture, it still made me feel a little better knowing that I could help him and he might’ve been starving so it made me happy.

Blueberry Moment 16289
My best friend’s dog had diarrhea and pooped all over her Mom’s room, and since her sister was asleep it was only us three, so I decided to help them clean it up even though it was very gross. When we finished, I gave them the Blueberry Card and explained to them what Blueberries were and my best friend knew what it was because they have it at her school as well. Even though it was something I did not enjoy, I was proud because I’m pretty sure any other best friends would not have done what I did if they had the option.

Samantha Murphy
Blueberry Moment 16230
I’ve opened the door and held it open for other people to go through. I did it because it’s a nice thing to do. They said thank you. I felt happy from the response.

Blueberry Moment 16229
I gave a person a drawing that had encouraging words on it. I did this because people deserve to hear good things about them. They smiled at me and said thanks for the kind words. This made me feel super happy.

Blueberry Moment 16228
I helped pick up something that a lady dropped. I did this because I wanted to be helpful. The lady gave me a smile and thanked me. The response made me feel great.

Alexander Stiles
Blueberry Moment 16272
I held the door for a focus sibling. I did it to be nice. They said thank you and we continued walking. I felt about the same as I had before. I normally hold the door for people.

Blueberry Moment 16273
I smiled at someone. I did it to bring more happiness into the world. The person responded cheerfully and smiled back. I felt better about everything, and glad to have caused two more smiles to exist.

Blueberry Moment 16274
I informed someone of an interesting fact about slugs. I did it to expand a fellow student’s knowledge. The person responded quizzically, then ignored me. I felt glad to have expanded a classmate’s knowledge.

Blueberry Moment 16242
I was getting ready to go back into the Mott Memorial Building because it was really cold outside, and my hands were freezing. I felt like my hands were about to fall off, but then these older and mature ladies were coming out as I was coming in. They had bags in each hand, so it looked like they were full. I held the door open for them and I helped them take their bags to their car. I told them to have a great rest of their night and they kindly said it back. I hope they felt some kind of positivity in their hearts like I did.

Blueberry Moment 16241
Around my dads’ neighborhood, I helped my neighbor take out his trash because he’s getting older and he needs some genuine help these days. Why I did it is because I felt he could use some help, and plus he’s always really nice to me. He responded by giving me a little money reward, although I did not want it. But he said he insisted, and that the neighborhood needs more nice kids like me around. I felt pretty proud afterwards.

Blueberry Moment 16240
I also shoveled the driveway for my girlfriend’s dad, who lives down the street from my dads’ place. I did it because I always love to help him around the house because that’s my girlfriend’s dad, so I’d like to keep a good bond with him. He said he really appreciated it because it gets tiring shoveling out that driveway, and I felt great but, tired.

My mom and I were on our way to drop me off at school. She had to work the third shift the day before, and she had overslept so we were running late. It had just snowed the night before and it was pretty cold. As we were driving down Fifth Avenue, we saw a homeless man on the side of the road and all he had on was a hospital gown. I felt bad seeing him in the cold with only a gown on. It was already 8:25, but I asked my mom to stop in Family Dollar anyway, and she did. I hurried in and grabbed a hoodie, sweatpants, a hat, and gloves. Then we went back to the bus stop the man was standing at and gave him the clothes. He thanked us repeatedly. I ended up being late to class by a couple of minutes, but it was worth it. In just a couple of minutes, you can change someone’s whole day. It made me feel good to know that he wouldn’t be cold or sick. It is hard enough for homeless people as it is and if I can help in any way, I will.

Blueberry Moment 16258
I got to school early one morning and there happened to be a girl who goes to Mott Community College getting on the elevator behind me. I asked her which floor she needed to go to, but she didn’t know where her class was. She said it was room number 2010, which happened to be the same floor as my class, so I helped her find it. I’m still new to Mott so it took us a minute, but I was happy that I could help. She thanked me and said that she really appreciated it. It made me feel good to know that I helped. It didn’t even take that long. You can change someone’s day in a matter of minutes. You don’t have to make huge gestures to show appreciation or kindness. It’s the little things that have the biggest impact.

Blueberry Moment 16257
I volunteer art McFarlan Home, an assisted living facility in Flint, Michigan several days a week. During one of the activities, several of the residents were very upset that their beautician had resigned, and they would be without a stylist for a week. Knowing how important it was for the residents to look their best, I offered my assistance. The wellness coordinator wanted to take them to Hair Force Beauty College to get their hair done, but didn’t have the time to sit with them. I volunteered to sit at the beauty college with the residents while they got their hair done. While there, I would assist residents in and out of their chairs, make sure they were safe, and walked with them to the bathroom. The residents were very happy that they were able to get their hair done that week. Being able to help the residents look their best and hearing their gratitude, made me feel very appreciated.

Me and a friend decided that we wanted to go bowling. We invited a couple of friends to come with us but one of our friends couldn’t go because she didn’t have the money to pay for herself. My friend and I wanted her to come with us because we knew it wouldn’t be the same without her. We then decided to come together and pay for our friend that couldn’t pay for herself. Our friend responded by trying to protest because she said she didn’t want us spending our money on her. We insisted on doing it though and after we went bowling, I felt great because we were able to spend time together outside of school with the majority of our friends.

Blueberry Moment 16276
In one of my classes at school, we had to make a chart about the future classes we are going to take in college. We had about a week to do the assignment. I finished mine in four days and had time to relax on the last day the assignment was due. I noticed one of my friends was struggling with completing the assignment, so I moved my stuff to where she was sitting so I could take her through it step by step. She has been my friend since second grade so I knew she would have done the same for me. Once we got done with her assignment, she was so happy. It was the last day she was able to turn it in and she was stressing about it. Afterward, I felt a little tired but happy that I was able to help my friend when she needed me.

Blueberry Moment 16277
Me and a group of students, along with our teacher, were packing up the instruments the day after a concert. Other people were there taking down decorations from it. We all had one door that we had to go out to take things out to our trucks. Everyone’s hands were full of boxes and it was hard to keep the door open. I was standing on the outside of the door when a student came through with their arms full of stuff. A few seconds after, a lady started to walk to the door and her hands were full as well. The heavy door was already almost closed by the time that I noticed her. I hurried over to the door and caught it with my foot since my hands were full as well. I then pushed the door the rest of the way open with my shoulder so she could get through. The lady said she was very thankful for me catching the door for her. In the end, I was happy that I was able to make that person’s day a little bit easier by just catching the door for her.

Blueberry Moment 16269
I took a survey from a U of M student when I was at the library for an assignment for college. He needed 80 people to take it for him and I was number 49 for his project. He was nice and he was polite the way that he asked. It looked as if he was calm about it. I felt good after doing it because I could have told him no and be rude. It was a nice survey.

Blueberry Moment 16270
I gave my dad a card and went to the movies with him to celebrate his birthday. I did it because my dad works a lot and I felt like he needed a day off. So, my sister and I took him to the movies. My dad liked it and he had fun. The movie we went to go see was Zombieland Two Double Tap. He liked Zombieland One. So, I told my sister that we should take dad to see number two and he agreed to go. The movie was funny. It had some scary parts, but it was funny in the end. After that I felt good. We had a good time and had good laughs.

Blueberry Moment 16271
I took pictures of Ta’leaha for her birthday, I took pictures of her because she looked pretty for her birthday and because she asked me to do it. While I was taking her picture, she was happy because she didn’t have anybody else to do it for her. I felt good and normal, I usually don’t take her picture but this time I did.

Efrain Palacios-Diaz
Blueberry Moment 16262

Blueberry Moment 16260
I bought my mom a burger. I did it because my mom worked so hard the past year to get us going to Mexico, and I had 10 dollars, so I took her out and bought her a burger. She was happy because she didn’t have to prepare food. I felt great because I love my mom

Taniya Taylor
Blueberry Moment 16215
I gave some canned goods and food to a homeless person. I did it because he looked really hungry and he asked me if I could buy him something from the store, but I didn’t have any money, so I gave him canned food that I had in the car. When I gave him some food, he was so grateful and thanked me. I saw him smile and it warmed my heart made me feel happy and made my day. I had a bad day, but it made me feel like a better person for making his day.

Blueberry Moment 16214
I gave a homeless person some money and pop bottles. I did it because I would feel bad if I just let him starve and I know I could have helped him. So, I gave him all the money and bottles I had in the car and in my pockets. When I gave him the money and bottles, he thanked me and took it in the store and bought some food. I felt relieved and thankful that I could help him.

Blueberry Moment 16213
I gave my professor a hug. It seemed like she was having a bad day and the class wasn’t behaving well, was talking back, and was not listening. I felt bad that she had to deal with that on her own and she probably has stuff going on at home, so I chose to give her a hug and told her something positive. She thanked me and she smiled. She told me I made her day a lot better. I felt better and she also made my day because I was also having a bad day.

Ma’at Nadir
Blueberry Moment 16219
I helped Mac by holding onto his stuff until he got back from GCI. I did it because I knew he would need someone to hold it for him since he couldn’t have it for his culinary class. He was very grateful I looked after his stuff. Then I felt good to help him even though it was something small.

Blueberry Moment 16220
I helped Asantee with her math. I did it because she always had trouble with algebra and I figured she needed help. She was confused on how to do it until I explained it to her about the formula, then she was grateful and really happy. I felt like I needed to help her or else she might have had trouble with the test.

Blueberry Moment 16221
I helped Aryana with Algebra before a test. She needed help with homework about what we did the day before. I did it since I knew that she needed to get her grades up for Algebra. She was grateful and a bit spiteful about how I solved the problems thinking they were wrong, but she eventually came around. I felt good after helping her since math is my specialty and I knew I could help her.

Lamaya Hicks
Blueberry Moment 16248
I gave Chy-dae some lip balm. I did it because I know Chy-dae needed some lip balm. It was very cold outside and I didn’t want her to get a cold sore. She was very pleased that I gave her some Carmex. She told me that she didn’t have any. I felt really happy afterwards and it made me feel good that I was able to help someone else out. Mrs. Mason’s nice picture also made the situation better.

Blueberry Moment 16249
I take notes for a lady in my college class on the days we have lectures. I did it because I know that she was having a hard time doing them herself. They weren’t very organized so I knew it would be hard for her to study from them. So, I write them during every class to make sure she has the correct notes. She’s very happy that I write them for her. I can tell she is very appreciative. It made me feel really good that I could help somebody else, especially since I could tell she was having a hard time. I really enjoy helping others. I feel the more people you help, the more positive blessings you will receive in your life.

Blueberry Moment 16279
I gave Chy-dae a dollar for lunch. I did it because she asked for a dollar because she was trying to buy some food at lunch. She was thankful that I gave it to her, and it really made her day. Also, she was no longer hungry. I felt like a really nice person because she really needed that dollar and she’s my friend. I’m always willing to help her.

Blueberry Moment 16294
It was my little brother’s turn to wash the dishes. His days to do them are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. It was Friday and I could tell he was having a horrible day. When he got off the bus from school, he looked very tired. My mom got done cooking dinner and he knew that it was his day. When Luciean got up to do them, I walked over to the sink and started filling it. I told him that I knew he was tired and just to go to bed and I would do them. I gave him my Blueberry Card and told him to pass it on when you do something nice for someone. He said thank you and gave me a hug and went to his room. I felt good because I know that he’s been struggling in school and trying to catch up. He deserved a break.

Blueberry Moment 16295
I was at Marathon on Thanksgiving break, pumping gas to go up north. My siblings were in the gas station getting snacks and my parents were in the car. There was an elderly man who was having a hard time getting out of his car to pump the gas. I stepped over so that he could see me and asked him if he needed help pumping. He said I could if it wasn’t any trouble. I pumped his gas and handed him my Blueberry Card and told him what to do. I felt happy and pleased with myself after I helped him.

Blueberry Moment 16296
My parents have been working overtime for the past week and always come home tired. When I got home from school, I cleaned the house, cleaned their room, and cooked dinner so that way they didn’t have to when they got home. I left my Blueberry Card on my dad’s nightstand and got all of my siblings ready for bed. When I woke up in the morning, my parents left a note saying thank you. I was happy that I possibly made their whole week better.

Aalyiah Moore

Blueberry Moment 16283
I gave Lamaya some peanut butter crackers. I gave Lamaya peanut butter crackers because she was hungry. She was appreciative and she thanked me for the crackers. She was happy that I gave her the peanut butter crackers. After I gave her the crackers, I felt like a good person that has done something nice for someone.

Blueberry Moment 16284
Ameir and I were in class and he couldn’t find his pencil, so I gave him one. I gave him a pencil because he needed one. He was glad that I gave him the pencil so he could do his work. I even let him keep it for his other classes. I felt like a very generous person that had done something nice for a person in need.

Blueberry Moment 16285
I had a lot of stuff in my hand and Armani opened the door for me and carried my backpack. She did it because I had a lot of stuff in my hand. She was really nice and helpful and had no problem helping me. I felt relieved that she did that for me and I was very thankful and appreciative of her.

Brea Baxter
Blueberry Moment 16291
I gave an acquaintance money for a drink because they were really thirsty and didn’t have any money on them to buy it themselves. I did it because I had some money in my pocket that I wasn’t going to use so I gave it to someone who could use it. The person was really thankful and tried to offer to pay me back but I just told them it’s okay and that they don’t need to. I felt good after I did that because I had never had the chance to help someone until that moment which was earlier this year.

Blueberry Moment 16292
I helped multiple people in my Geometry class with the work because they didn’t understand how to do it. I did it because I usually finish my work early in class and I have a lot of spare time in class. The multiple people I helped were really grateful. I felt great afterwards because I kind of found out that I like to in a way tutor people.

Blueberry Moment 16293
Someone dropped their money in the hall and I gave it back to them. I did it because I knew that if I dropped money, I’d want someone to return it to me. The person was so happy that I didn’t take it and instead returned it to them. I felt good because I know that if it wasn’t me, then someone else would have taken it and walked away instead of returning it.

Aniyah March-Wakefield
Blueberry Moment 16268
One day I was at work and someone didn’t have enough money to pay for their food, and since they didn’t have enough my manager wasn’t going to let them get their food. So, I took the initiative to help them pay for the rest of their food. I did it because one thing I really want to do in life is to help people so when I get the chance to, I do. The person was thankful. Afterwards, I felt happy about it because I got to help someone in need.

At this church I go to, there’s this tree with paper ornaments on it with things on the ornaments. There are kid’s names and their age. No one is obligated to take one but I did. I did it because I want to make someone’s Christmas better any way I can. After I bought the gift, I was very proud of myself just because of the fact that I can make someone else happy by doing something so little.

Blueberry Moment 16266
I bought my sister some new shoes. I did it because she’s my favorite person in the whole world and I love making her happy. She was happy about it because they were the shoes that she wanted. I felt happy about it because it made her happy.

About a week ago, my mother and I went to Walmart to get some groceries. While my mother was about to park I saw an elderly man and lady pick up a bunch of cans by themselves. I rushed over to them to pick up all the cans off the floor. When I came, I could see their face light up as bright as the Christmas lights outside of peoples’ houses. As I continued to pick up all of the cans, they would repeatedly thank me. Doing this made me feel really proud and happy to see the smile on their faces.

During the fall season, my father and I started to use our lawnmower to get rid of all of the leaves in our yard. When my father and I were just about to finish, we saw my neighbors get out their rakes. My neighbors have a huge backyard and me and my father knew that it would take my neighbors hours to finish. I asked my dad if we could use the lawnmower to help the neighbors with their lawn and my dad was happy to oblige. About 30 minutes later, you couldn’t see a single leaf in their driveway. My neighbors tried to pay us, but we refused to take the money. Looking at everything that we accomplished made me feel empowered.

About a month ago, my father and I went to my old school and we saw a bunch of kids without jackets. I asked my teacher why they didn’t have coats when it was 20 degrees outside, and my old teacher said, “I don’t know why. I think they can’t afford it.” When we realized this, my dad decided to sponsor the school and donate ten coats to those in need. This made me realize how grateful I am to be able to have everything that I have. Seeing all of those kids walk away and knowing that they won’t freeze made my Christmas.

I helped a lady put her groceries in her car. I did it because she looked like she needed help. She responded well and she looked grateful that I helped her. I felt good that I was able to help her out.

Blueberry Moment 16205
My friend needed help with their work, so I helped them out. I did it because I knew that he needed it and he would help me out in the future. I felt ok.

Blueberry Moment 16206
I brought paint to help make the turkey for our school. I knew that it would look a lot better and I haven’t used my paint in a while, so it was a good use for it. My teacher Ms. Hacket really enjoyed the end product. In fact, she really loved it. I felt good knowing how everyone liked it and was taking pictures of it.

I gave Coriah some lip gloss because her lips were dry and cracking. Coriah was happy because her lips could finally be moisturized. She was pleased that I offered her some lip gloss and she thanked me.

Aniyah had some dry skin that I noticed so I pulled her to the side and asked her if she needed any lotion. She replied yes and she was grateful. She said she had left hers at home, so she was glad that I gave her some since her ashy ankles were visible.

Jaylen was thirsty so I gave him my new water bottle. He was super thirsty, so I offered my water. He thanked me after and drank the whole bottle.

Over the summer, I did TeenQuest to learn skills to get a job. While for most people, the program is pretty straightforward and simple, it can be easy to fall short of what you need to do to graduate from it. Whether you lack the motivation, or simply think the program isn’t useful and you didn’t want to participate in the first place, it’s easy to fall into the trap of just not working. In my session, we had a student who, while he was definitely capable, had some parts of the program he struggled with. Of course, no one wants to watch someone fail, especially when it’s your job to help them succeed. Because of the way we learned, we were able to work together to help improve each other’s skills. While it wasn’t only my act of kindness, I felt like it was important to share. While we were encouraged to do it, it was still our choice to encourage each other and help each other improve our skills. We all succeeded as a team and graduated together in July. Recently, I ran into the student again, and was able to talk about our experience at TeenQuest together. Before we split ways, I was able to give him a Blueberry Card and hopefully he’ll be able to pass it on.

Around the beginning of the school year, I got my first job. I work at a women’s clothing store in the mall, and it can be pretty interesting. As many know, working retail can be super fun, super frustrating, or just plain boring. However, I try to look at work as an opportunity to make someone’s day better. After all, the point of fashion is to find something to wear that makes you happy and confident. If someone comes in and they’re in a bad mood, I try my hardest to make sure they leave feeling at least a little better. Once, we had a woman who came in looking for a nice pair of jeans. A part of our training is to try on different brands to get an understanding of how they fit and look. She was an older woman and wore around the same size as me. I noticed while she was trying on jeans that she wasn’t quite “in love” with them and how they looked on her. I noticed that she had been trying on the same size as I was, so I offered for her to try them on. When she did, she still wasn’t completely confident, so I figured she needed a little help in seeing what everyone else sees and explained to her why they suited her really well. While I could tell she still might’ve been a bit on the fence, she was definitely starting to notice the positives instead of what she didn’t like about herself. After some more thought, she decided to go ahead and buy them– and she seemed a lot more self-assured after that. I handed her the Blueberry Card at the register.

One day, as I was walking down the hallways at school, I noticed a girl had dropped some money. She was walking too quickly for me to tell her she’d dropped it, so I had to awkwardly follow her around for a bit to hand her the money. While it was only a few dollars, I’m glad I was able to return it to her. For all I knew, it was her lunch money, or bus fare, or just a few dollars she wanted to keep. As I gave her the money, I handed her the Blueberry Card along with it. Hopefully she’ll do the same when she sees someone in a similar predicament.

For my first Blueberry Moment, I donated some money to the bell ringers that were collecting money for the Salvation Army at a local grocery store. The bell ringer’s smile made me feel pretty good, knowing every little bit helps them. I’ll do even more in the future to help people.

Blueberry Moment 16217
My second Blueberry Moment was when I was shopping for groceries and I found something I thought my Aunt would really enjoy, so I bought it for her and ran it over to her house. She was very surprised and very happy to get the gift, and I really enjoyed making her happy. I will definitely try my best to take care of people in the future.

Blueberry Moment 16216
The last Blueberry Moment I did was helping my teacher by running an errand. She was kind of confused when I gave her the Blueberry Card, but once I explained it, she seemed really happy. I will do my best to be of service to those around me from now on.

Our school is paired up with a program that gives out personal care packages for women. I admired it but was never really interested in it as I don’t need those things. However, my friend was in need of a care package but was too embarrassed to get it for herself. I told her not to worry, just tell me what she needs and write it down. Then, I went and got her a care bag and handed it off to her with the card. It made me feel good to help her and proud to be a part of a school who participates in programs that better the community.

Before I get into what I did with this card, I’d like to talk a bit about the Mott Blueberries and my experience being a part of them. I truly believe Mott Blueberries are the humblest, kindest, and just overall one of the best groups of Blueberries. The things I’ve seen over the past three years amazes me. Through Valentine’s Day parties, drives, inspirational post-it’s, and many wall murals, my group has been through a lot. Through lunch meetings, pizza parties, and focus activities, I seriously doubt any group took their job as being a Blueberry as seriously as my group. We have done so much for our school and community and I couldn’t be prouder for us. Through 14461, 14462, 1163 of freshmen year. 3662, 3663, 3664 of my sophomore year (which was my hardest year yet). And finally, 16201, 16202, and 1603 of junior year. I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the founders of Blueberry Ambassadors, my wonderful amazing team, and my amazing teacher Ms. Hackett, who single handedly has run the Mott Blueberries. We couldn’t of done this without you. Blueberries has done so much for me and in my life. I get to be creative in ways that better the community, use my talents to better others and myself, and I’m more aware of the issues. And I’m a better person because of it. This is why I’m using this card to donate all my tips at my waitressing job to a local charity for a month.

My friend Mack was having a bad day. So, I bought him a coffee to cheer him up. It makes me feel good to help my friends!

One of the staff members at Mott Middle was going to a different job. As I was sad about this, I thought about all the important things they had done for the school and I wanted to make contributions to him. I grabbed a poster board and decided to get to work. I started off with getting signatures and notes from people in my large ASHP class who I knew appreciated the staff member as much as I did. I grabbed everyone’s signatures and their notes and then wrote a meaningful message on the poster with his name. Later that day I presented it to him during the end of his shift and he was very happy since it was the only thing the students had done for him. I am very glad to have done this because he helped me a lot over my years at this school.

Blueberry Moment 16281
Another kind thing I did one day for a Blueberry Moment was every person that I talked to, I would give a compliment. If I saw someone and thought of something nice to say to them, I would say the thing I thought. Doing this for a whole day made a lot of people happy including myself. Whenever I would make someone else smile just by being honest it would make my mood so much better. I am going to be doing this more because it is something good to do when you want to spread joy to yourself and others.

Blueberry Moment 16288
Tutoring other students is also something that takes a little bit of time but when you are done, makes a big impact. My sister for example takes classes at a college in Detroit and she needed help on a paper, so we got on the phone and I helped her work through the issues that she had when writing. This took about two hours, but it was really worth it because she ended the semester with a 4.0. There were also students in my own school that needed help with missing work and understanding the things they missed, so I helped them with everything and they ended up getting very high grades. It is a lot of work on my part to do this since I have never been trained or anything but when I put the work in people really appreciate it and it makes me happy to help others succeed in their classes.

Another thing I did was for my family, at the end of November I got hired at my first job and since then, I have been saving my money to spend it on my family who does a lot for me. The first paycheck I received I took my mom out to eat and bought her a present. This really made her happy and proud of me. Another thing I did with the money saved was buy Christmas presents for people in my family. I have never done this before, so it was my first time going Christmas shopping, I loved it because it made me feel so good trying to find the perfect gift for people and helped me realize that I enjoy spending money on others than on myself. I hope as time goes on, I can do even more for my family because they deserve it.

For my first Blueberry Moment, I brought an extra lunch to school and gave it to people that didn’t have one. This made me feel good because I felt like I was helping somebody who needed it. Even though it was something simple, I believe that it made their day better because they smiled. Making people happy genuinely brightens my day so helping them inevitably helped myself.

Blueberry Moment 16252
For my second Blueberry Moment, I held the door open for someone. The simple act not only made someone happy, but I saw them pass the act forward and hold the door open for somebody else. I believe that’s the entire point of the Blueberry Moment is to help people be better people.

Blueberry Moment 16251
For my third Blueberry Moment, I was at the store and this older woman was having trouble taking her groceries and putting them in her car. So, I helped her put them all in the back of her trunk and I took her cart and put it back inside for her. She was very grateful. She kept thanking me and saying that she appreciated it.
