Our Blueberry Ambassador group volunteered at the local Food Bank. We sorted through 12,795 pound of food, which helped out 17,374 families. We sorted through foods like fruits, canned foods, and snacks. We helped each other with other jobs like giving each other advice and also helping each other catch up with the belt rotations. Even through at the end of the day my back was hurting, I was happy we helped feed 17,374 families.

I went on the field trip to the Soup Kitchen and I helped make sandwiches with the lady who worked at the Soup Kitchen. We also helped the other lady who cooks for all the people to come and eat there. I gave my Blueberry Card to the lady who cooks in the kitchen. I was inspired by these acts because they don’t have to do this for the Soup Kitchen but they want to. They want to help others. That’s a very kind act.

Me and my mom were mowing the lawn and we noticed this other lady in the neighborhood mowing her lawn too, but her lawnmower was not working. We were just staring and wondering what the lady was trying to do. When we realized that the women was having trouble starting it, my mom and I went over to where the women was and my mom said, “Excuse me, but are you having some trouble with your lawn mower?” The women said, “Oh yes, could you help me with this? I think something is caught in it.” So, I lifted the handle of the lawnmower my mom and the women got underneath the lawn mower to see what was under there. The lady had some rope caught in the lawnmower blade. Eventually my mom and the lady got the rope out and was able start the lawnmower again. The women said “ Thank you very much, ma’am”! Me and my mom said “ no problem it’s all good” and I gave her a Blueberry Card and asked her to pass it on. After that, we went back to mowing our lawn and the woman was able to mow her lawn too.

On Sunday October 28, 2018, I was at my mom’s work helping out. Her co-worker, Kallie was struggling because, there was an abundance of tables to be cleaned. So I decided to help her clean the tables before the restaurant got any busier. At the end of her shift, I gave her a Blueberry Card and told her the whole story about the Blueberries, then told her to pay it forward.

Blueberry Moment 16942
I was making my usual visit to Brian’s family restaurant to see my mom at work to help out. I saw this elderly woman who comes in regularly and always struggles to open the door. I never see anyone help her, but this time, a customer who comes in with her father held the door open for the elderly lady. I thought that was really nice, so I told her father, that I was going to give her this card. When his daughter came back, he told me that I forgot my card. I said, “I’m going to give her this card because she did something kind, and I want her pass it forward.” She read the back of the card, smiled and said thank you.

On March 6th, I went to the Flint Food Bank. I was a little scared to go at first, but I had a lot of fun there and met a nice guy named Mike. He helped me with my job when I was stuck on what to do. My job at the Food Bank was to put away the boxed goods. It was a bit confusing at first but I soon got the hang of it with a little help from Mike. My legs hurt a lot but it was worth it to help hundreds of families to be able to eat. I hope I get to help out again.

Blueberry Moment 16944
I went back to the Flint Food Bank, this time I didn’t get to help with the boxed goods, instead me and a few of my friends got to help with frozen carrots. What I mean when I say that is we all had a job to do. Two students would break the frozen carrots apart, two to three bagged them, one student tagged and boxed them and the last student could help others or sweep the floor. When we would get tired from doing one job we would trade jobs so we all were working hard. At the end of the day we were all cold and smelled like carrots but we shared a few laughs and got the job done within two hours. I really hope I get to help out at the Food Bank again.

On April 1st, I helped my twin sister, Gabriella with her chores. She was really happy to get them done early since she had a really stressful day at school. When we were all done she gave me a big hug and went off to bed, I felt really happy knowing that she would have a good night rest.

On Sunday, I felt really bad! I was sick and I kept coughing and sneezing. I think I also had a fever. But my sister decided to make a carrot cake for my dad’s birthday! So I decided to help even though I was sick! After celebrating my dad’s birthday, I gave him my Blueberry Card and wished him happy birthday!

Yesterday, my friend dropped her leadership binder and all the papers inside fell out. So I decided to help her and put the papers back inside her binder. She thanked me and before she could leave I gave her my Blueberry Card and told her to read the back of it then I left.

Yesterday, I went to the Soup Kitchen to help the homeless get food. I helped make sandwiches and served the homeless their food. Then there was this guy in the kitchen so instead of giving him the Blueberry Card, I left it in the bowl that everyone else left their business card.

Coming up on next Saturday, there is an event I’ll be volunteering for. It’s an event where the less fortunate have a chance to have a good time in their life, when they don’t have to worry if they are going to make it or not. There will be PLENTY of food and TONS of entertainment. There is even a park for the kids to play in and I’m super excited! Something I’ve done in the past was I helped Pack Your Backpack with Mari Copeny, AKA Little Miss Flint stuff about 10,000 backpacks for Flint kids! Actually, some of the backpacks were donated to our school, I helped stuff those backpacks too! I think it’s good to help the community as much as possible, especially because of a lot of the bad things happening around our community. The world can always change, so there is an opportunity to make the world a better place!

About one week ago, Jasmine, Jailah, and I created the clean-up committee. The clean-up committee is when us three girls go outside, and clean up all the trash we can find around the school! We have an adult to supervise us while we work. We decided to do this because no one cleans up the playground! Also, we helped Mrs. Groth set up the Book Fair in the library! She was very thankful we helped her set up! So that way she didn’t have all that work to do, carrying heavy boxes! I’m glad we made the world a better place! Filled with kindness!

Yesterday, I got off the bus and walked home. I realized my dad was doing yard work, and he clearly looked exhausted. He wasn’t even halfway done raking the leaves. So I greeted him, and walked in to settle down. I noticed he was still struggling, so instead of letting him do all the work while I play games, or eat, or do whatever, I decided to put on my jacket and shoes, and help him. I just wanted to let my dad relax, and get it done faster. If I wasn’t there to help, he probably would’ve been working for another 20-30 minutes! He was so elated that I was willing to give up my time, to help him!

I saw a man at the corner store, looking for something he had dropped on the floor. It appeared that he could not see what he was looking for. I asked if he need help and saw that he had dropped a lot of change on the floor. I asked if he needed help, he thought I was going to keep his money, but I started helping him pick up some dimes and pennies that was on the floor. He still did not trust me, but I give him all of his money and gave him a dollar to help pay for his snacks. I give him a Blueberry Card too.

I helped a lady with changing her flat tire. She was on the side of the road. I said, “Hey do you need some help?” She said, “Yes I do.” So I jacked up her car, took the tire off and put on her spare. After that I give her the Blueberry Card.

I had ironed all of my baby brother’s clothes for school. In the mornings, my mom rushes because she has to get him ready and get herself ready as well. It often causes her to be late. It was a ton of clothes and I knew it was going to take a while, but at least it helped my mom out. It took me about two hours to finish. Once I was finished, I ironed my mom’s clothes for work as well. It didn’t take long because she didn’t have as many outfits as my baby brother. After hanging the clothes up, I gave my mom the Blueberry Card and explained to her how it works. She was very proud of me, and I was proud of myself as well.

A few months ago, my dad was given the opportunity to become supervisor at his job. His boss told him that in order to become supervisor, he had to organize all of the company’s routes, the date, and time that they were supposed to be at a certain spot in the city. So, at home, my dad started putting down the routes on paper. He started to become really frustrated. I then realized that I have a laptop that can make documents and spreadsheets. I told him that I can help him organize the routes with my laptop. It took us a while. We worked really hard and eventually got it done. My dad and I were really satisfied with the outcome of the spreadsheets.

In August, 2018, I came up with the idea to start a fundraiser where we gave bears to a children’s research hospital. I had presented the idea to two of my friends and they liked the idea and wanted to help. I asked my teacher and principal for permission to do it, and they agreed. It was a long process. We had to figure out the rewards, the prices, and what agency we would donate the bears to. If you couldn’t bring a bear, you would have to bring $5 in order to have a “dress down” day, and not wear your school uniform. The class that brought in the most bears and money would get a smoothie party. Once everything was situated, we made the flyers and hung them up. Then the bears started rolling in. I was very excited with the outcome of this fundraiser. There were bears of all sizes. They filled up the whole back of our classroom. Because of the bears being gently used, we couldn’t donate them to a research hospital, so instead, we donated the bears to The Salvation Army.

I was at Walmart shopping with my brother, when we were done shopping we walked out of the store and walked back to our car. I saw that a senior citizen was having trouble loading her car. As we were approaching our car, the senior citizen dropped her groceries onto the ground. I quickly ran to her car and helped her pick her groceries and helped load them into her vehicle. After helping her for a few minutes she said “Thank you very much” I said “You’re very welcome, have a good day.” I gave her a Blueberry Card .

Blueberry Moment 16952
I was in the store looking for something with my mom and I saw a man shopping too. As I turned my head, I saw that he had dropped his groceries as he was putting them on the conveyor. I quickly left my mom and helped the old man pick up his groceries. I saw he had a broken leg, so I asked him, “Do you want me to help you load your car?’ His response “Yes I would like that a lot.” So I walked back to my mom and said “I’ll be right back, I’m going to help someone put his groceries in his car.” She said, “Alright.” So I ran back and helped him load his car and after we were done he thanked me and he gave me a handshake and I gave him a Blueberry Card .

In October last year, our Blueberry group went to the soup kitchen and made plates and food for the people who came. Also I helped make sandwiches and others helped weighed the food from the food bank.

On February 25, 2019, me and my mom were walking into Kroger and I saw two kids putting a shopping cart up and they left their pop in the basket so I took the basket back to them so they wouldn’t leave it in the cart and forget it.

On Wednesday March 6,2019, me and a group of Blueberries went to the food bank. We sorted through snacks, cans, drinks, and non-edible household items. We fed about 17,374 families and sorted through 12,795 pounds of edible and non-edible food.

I was walking with my step-dad and we was in Dollar Tree. As I was walking in an aisle I saw a struggling woman with three children pulling her every which way. I couldn’t do anything but wonder why she won’t tell them to stop. A couple minutes later, we walked to check out and that same lady was in front of us. She couldn’t pay for all her items and so I gave her $20 and asked my step-dad to take her and her three kids to the groceries store and let her get a few things. She was about to walk home until we offered them a ride to her house. I gave her a Blueberry Card and said do good for someone else.

During the last switch (Special’s classes), we were showing the new students in class what Blueberries are about. I saw a sixth grader struggling with his locker, I let him keep trying until I saw it really wasn’t working. I went out and attempted his lock, but, it didn’t work, so I went and got Mrs. Sola to help him. We made sure he knew he would get help if he needs it.

One of my closest friends, injured her ankle playing volleyball and couldn’t do anything for a while so I helped her. I helped her go to the bathroom, I helped her get food, I helped her walk around places and helped her do much more. I gave her my Blueberry Card and told her to pass the good deed over. I also told her about the possibility to make the world a better place. I know if I can do it she can too.

My sister, auntie and I were at Walmart. On the way out, I saw an older lady with a lot of items in her hand. She looked as if she needed help. I walked over and asked if she would like some help she said, “Yes, thank you very much.” I took the bags out of her hand and ask where she was going. She told me there was a car outside waiting for her. She said she remembered me from the time when me and my mom went to the homes of older ladies to cook and clean for them. The lady asked for my mom’s number, so we could come and clean her house. I gave her the number and she said thank you. I also gave her a Blueberry Card and she asked what it was for. I told her when she does something nice for someone to give them the card and tell them to pass it on. The lady was happy that someone was doing something nice in the community.

I like to play basketball in my free time at the YMCA and usually play the game with different people when I go there. One day, this boy named Jake shot the ball and it bounced off the rim and hit another boy in the face. The boy got very angry and tried to go after Jake to fight him. I told him that Jake didn’t mean to hit him, it was an accident. I asked him, “If you hit him, what are you going to get out of it? Nothing! Because two wrongs don’t make a right.” He listened, thought about it, and made a better choice and walked away.

I was at the mall with my friends shopping. We decided to go get some food. A man was in line and we let him go in front of us because we were not ready. He was ordering his food, and he dropped $20. I picked it up for him and gave it to him. After he was done, he told me thanks and offered me $20. I said, no thank you and gave him a Blueberry Card and explained he should pay it forward.

Last Thursday, Ms. Daunt’s class went down to our buddy room in Ms. Murray’s second grade class. We helped them read and make their Martin Luther King project plan. Then we helped them research the project and complete them..

Over Spring break, I went to my uncle’s house with my cousin to help him clean up his back yard. We cleaned up trash, raked leaves and picked up dog poop. We went into the front yard and had to do the same thing. When we were done, my uncle thanked us and instead of being paid, I gave him a Blueberry Card .

Blueberry Moment 16957
Before break, me and a group of Blueberries went to the office and was asked to help unload two semi-trucks full of food, which was for our food give-away to less fortunate families. We sorted and packed the food into boxes and bags for families. We worked with the people from McDonald’s who donated a lot of money and also came in to help us. We packed food boxes so every family in our school who came to Literacy Night could go home with a big box of food!

I helped cook dinner and made sides to take over to my granny’s house where the whole family go for Sunday Dinners. I also helped with cleaning the house, washed dishes, bathe the dog, swept, mopped, washed walls, and watered all seven of my granny’s plants.

Blueberry Moment 16059
I helped my dad make dinner because my grandma and my grandad were coming to our house for dinner and we had a whole lot to cook. That’s why I helped make dinner. After everyone was done, I helped clear the table, washed dishes, cleaned up my younger siblings and put their pajamas on them to get them ready for bed. This morning, on the bus someone in the back of the bus was still asleep so I went back there to wake them up so they would not get left on the bus. Today started out to be a nice day!

Blueberry Moment 16960
I was at home and my dad was at work. My stepmom was watching me, my sisters and her two kids. I helped make dinner and put my 9 month old baby sister to sleep that night. I also put my other sisters to sleep too. My stepsister and I help watch my sisters because, my stepmom can not watch 7 kids all at once, without help.

During the summer, I went with my sister to get some pizza. We got two boxes of pizza. We went to the gas station to put some gas in the car. While we were there I spotted a homeless man. I asked my sister if I could give the homeless man a box of pizza. She said “Yes of course.” We went and gave the homeless man one of our pizzas. He told me, “God bless you”. I felt really good about making this decision. I gave him the Blueberry Card and told him to pass the good deed on.

Yesterday, one of my close friends had an emotional meltdown. He had got very mad because someone had told him that he did something he did not do. It was right before we went to lunch so I left him alone until fourth hour. I asked him how he was doing and calmed him down by talking to him. I told him to ignore the negativity. This morning he said, “Good morning Ailyn,” and I said, “Hey,” and smiled. I gave him the Blueberry Card and told him to do something nice for somebody else.

A couple days ago, I went to my little sister’s Literacy Night at her school. When we got to her classroom, the teacher told everyone to sit down because she was going to read a book . We sat down but I saw she needed help because she had spilled a lot of juice she was going to give to the kids. I automatically got up and asked if I could help her by reading the book . She told me that she would highly appreciate it. I finished reading the book to the children and she came up to me and thanked me. I remembered I had a Blueberry Card and I gave it to her. I told her to pass the positivity on.

The first time I did something nice was for my friend, Lateara. Her mom told us to clean up the house and Lateara needed help. I cleaned up the bedroom and made up the bed while she cleaned other parts of the house. Her mom was really happy and surprised, after we cleaned the house. Since she was so happy with that we cleaned the kitchen the bathrooms, vacuumed the floor, wiped the mirrors down with Windex, sorted toys, separated clothes and we took out the trash. When we were done I gave her a Blueberry Card and told her to pay it forward.

This weekend, an old lady by my house was supposed to get her grass cut but the man never showed up. I went over and asked the lady if she needed help? She said, ”Yes, I need someone to cut my grass.” I told my mom I would do it. So I cut the lady’s grass and when I was done, the lady gave me 10 dollars and I gave her a Blueberry Card. She was very happy because she is an older lady and she cannot do much. Now, I always try to help her because I do not want her to hurt herself. So now some days, when the man does not show up, I just cut her grass or I take out her trash, sometimes I even help her clean up her house .

Yesterday, on December 7, 2018, we took a trip to my mom’s job Briarwood Nursing Home, and we helped the older people with arts and crafts. We made gingerbread houses and gingerbread men and it was so much fun. A lot of time their family members do not come and visit them and they were so sweet. We got to color with them and we talked to them. Now, when I go there to see my mom, I always go and talk to them because I want them to feel loved. I treat them just like they’re my family because it’s good to help or give people what they should have but don’t.

I would like to be nice to one of my neighbors or one of the people I meet randomly. Just because it’s the nice thing to do and I want them to think they are special when they take a Blueberry Card , after I’m nice to them. I want them to think that anyone would do something nice, if they saw the person. At the same time, I don’t want the person I’m nice to think of me as a weird person because I was nice to them.

Well, on Monday, my dad said he was going to come and get me for the weekend like he always does. This specific time, when he came to get me, he had a little dog with him. He always told us he would never get a dog. The dog was so little, and cute it was only three months old. When we got to my dad’s house I noticed he was a little tired and exhausted because of all the working and driving he did that day. An hour later, my dad had fallen asleep and I was left awake with a dog, I had no clue how to take care of! That’s when I started to search things that would help me figure out how to properly take care of the baby dog. After doing research, the little dog started to scratch on the back door so I thought maybe it had to handle some business if you know what I mean. So I opened the door and let the dog have some privacy. After about seven minutes, I let the dog back in, at this time my dad was still sleep. I got a little bored and hungry so I made me some noodles, there’s nothing better than a good bowl of chicken flavored noodles and hot sauce. The dog was just watching me with those big brown eyes so I figured it was a little hungry. I decided to make it a big bowl of gravy train, and he ate a very little bit. Now, my dad was waking up, he said “I have to take the dog outside,” and I said, “Nope, I just did it,” smiling then he asked “Did you feed him?” I gladly said yes and my dad just laughed and thanked me. I then proceeded to get my pay it Blueberry Card out my bag and gave it to him. He then asked, “What’s this for?” I said read it and pass it on. I felt very good about what I did that day and I look forward to doing more things like that!

It all started at noon on my birthday when I went outside to check the mail for my mother. As I proceeded to open the mailbox to do my deed, I noticed there was a little girl crying not too far from where I was standing. I started to approach the girl until I thought, maybe I should just mind my own business. I was very curious about what was going on, wondering why she was so sad. I then started to walk back home with a handful of coupons, bills, and other unknown papers. When I finally got to my home, I told my mother about the crazy things I just saw. It seemed as if she was curious too. Later on that day, it was finally time for my birthday party, many people brought me money, and other gifts. I had $370 dollars in total. My mother then asked me if I wanted to go somewhere with her when the party was over I said yes in a hurry. On our way to the car, I saw the same girl and her mother too. She still looked so sad with fast tears running down her face. I went up to the girl and asked her what was wrong. She said, “I’m really hungry, and me and my mom don’t have any money.” I then thought and pulled out my $370 and proceeded to split it in half. I gave the mother half the money and my Blueberry Card and told her to pay it forward. She just started pouring tears from her eyes. She thanked me so much with a big smile on her face.

We thought maybe we could start a fundraiser called Greatness Is Here and raise money for children like us. We are going to buy them toys and teddies. We raised money for the fundraiser and we got all types of teddy bears. St. Jude’s Research Hospital could not take them because they weren’t clean enough! We needed to figure out what to do! So we started brainstorming, and we thought of many ideas! But, after all we decided to give them to the Salvation Army! They gladly allowed us to take them there!

Before spring break, my mom brought up the idea of spring cleaning! This did not really appeal to me because I don’t like cleaning. So I didn’t really have anything to say.    Spring break came along and I was having a lot of fun! I was going everywhere and doing everything! Then, I thought about how my mom wanted to do Spring cleaning. So I decided when she wasn’t around I was going to clean up! I cleaned my room, the kitchen, the laundry room, the living room, and even the bathrooms! My mom got home and was so surprised and amazed! She told me she was thankful! This made me feel awesome!

We have incorporated a daily snack delivery detail, ran by our Blueberry Ambassadors. Each member is assigned to make deliveries of nutritional snacks: fruits, veggies and dips, cheese sticks or chips and sauce on one day each week. We make sure that every classroom get enough snacks for every kid. Sometimes, the teachers ask for a snack too. I know they are good for us, but most of the kids hate the zucchini and yellow squash. We go to the cafeteria around 9:50 a.m., to sort the snacks for delivery, before lunch. That way the students are not so hungry during the day before lunch.

I went to the soup kitchen with the Blueberries to help serve food and help package lunch sacks. On one particular day, half of us was packing sack lunches, some cooked the food that we was going to serve to the people that comes in. Some went upstairs to tag clothes and put them on shelves that is like a store. The store was only used for churches and special organizations to buy stuff to donate to the homeless/unfortunate people. I also served lunch for the people that came to eat their meals for that morning. I felt good to serve to the people that sometimes do not get three meals a day like others do. After we got done with the chores, they serve lunch to us before the people start coming in, so we know how the people feel eating at a soup kitchen. Then, we have to clean up before we leave.

I gave my Blueberry Card to Ms. Murray because I went to her class and worked with second graders on addition and subtraction. I also helped her clean her classroom.
