Some of our Blueberries were chosen to travel to Lansing. They hung out at the Capitol building and represented RPSA for School Choice Week. Our first trip for community service this year! Half of our group went to the Food Bank and worked for a day.

I was at practice and it was time to leave. I noticed that the staff was tired, and decided to help them roll mats, and get the room cleaned up of water bottles, lost things, etc. They were grateful that they were able to go home earlier. I wouldn’t believe that such a small act of kindness can make such a big difference in someone’s life, because you never know what someone could be going through. I explained to her the Blueberry program, and what we do. I gave her my Blueberry Card and explained to her that our goal is to just make the world happier and a better place. There is enough hate in the world and that we should stand strong for ourselves and one another. She smiled and told me she would pay it forward one day. I’m glad I was able to contribute to someone’s day, even though it was just a small deed as helping somebody clean an area. It made me realize that kindness is everywhere and in everybody and together, we can put a smile on someone’s face.

I saw a man struggling with his groceries at a grocery store. We were walking towards our car, so I asked my mom if I could go help him since it was going in our direction also. I came up to him and told him I would help him out. He was a bit hesitant at first but was happy with the help. I explained to him that when I saw him struggling and wanted to help him in a way. I gave him my Blueberry Card and he thanked me a few times. I was able to do something to help in some way, I was satisfied I was able to help him with something.

A couple days a week, I organize and clean up my house for my family so we don’t have to live in a messy house. I organize what can be recycled and what needs to go in the trash. I do the dishes so me and my family have plates and cups to eat and drink from. I vacuum the floors so we don’t step on crumbs and whatnot that lies on the floor. My Blueberry Card went to my dad for helping me and reminding me that I have to clean floors, so I thanked him and moved on. My sister needed help cleaning the kitchen, so I swept the floor and cleaned the table off.

At a pep rally for the volleyball players and football players, our principal was giving out candy. I saw this little girl crying. I didn’t know what for, so I asked. I said what’s wrong.  She said some kids trampled her while trying to get candy. So, I asked her who her teacher was and took her to the teacher. I didn’t ask her name or tell her mine at the time, so we didn’t know each other. The teacher thanked me. I gave the girl my Blueberry Card.

On Sunday afternoon, I went to the movies with a friend of mine and saw the The Turning. She only had three dollars. So, I got a smaller drink and popcorn so I could give some money to my friend so she could pay for her ticket. She didn’t have money for a drink or popcorn, so I shared with her. The movie was confusing, but we had fun for the time being. When the movie was over, I gave her my Blueberry Card and asked her to pay it forward.

It was cold outside and my mom accidentally ordered two whole boxes of pizzas, she had suggested that we just throw them away or give them to my Grandma. I suggested that we give them to my favorite orphanage, my mom took a moment to consider it but eventually she said yes. A while later when we got to the orphanage at the front desk, I saw a man giving a woman a Blueberry Card. The man looked about in his late twenties with lots of laugh lines on his face. The woman looked at the Blueberry Card and began to smile, my mom whispered for me to stop staring because it was rude but then I felt a pat on my back. The man had noticed my blueberry ambassador bracelet and asked “what are you here for?” I told the man I was there to drop off the extra pizza boxes and he gave me a big smile. My mother was busy talking to the woman at the reception desk and allowed me to go to the visitor section with the man to talk. As I talked to him, I found out more. His name was Oliver Grandson and he was actually 19 years old with two siblings, Gray and Ava. He wasn’t working at the moment but still happy. He had been a Blueberry for four years and had just received a Blueberry Card a week ago which encouraged him to continue doing nice things. My mom finished talking to the young woman, so I had to give her the Blueberry Card and left. I said goodbye to the man but, I will still remember the first time I saw another older Blueberry.

I came in this morning and the bus was late as always so I was ticked off. I grabbed breakfast and I was walking down the hallway. I saw Kloey drop her breakfast and violin case on the floor. Another guy, I think an eighth grader, helped while I offered to carry her case to whatever class she had because obviously her hands were full. We got to the she thanked me then we headed our separate ways. On the way back down the hallway, there was a third grader, back against the wall crying. I tried to hide to fact that I had a huge attitude and asked her what was wrong. The third grader informed me that she couldn’t figure out which class was hers. I headed back down to the younger kid’s hallway and we asked all the teachers whose class she belonged in. Eventually we found out she belonged in Miss Martin’s class. I gave the younger girl a high five and a Blueberry Card and continued on my way back to my class, uninterrupted this time.

Me and my friend Dakota decided to go to Courtland Cinemas for a little hangout session. While waiting in line to pay for our tickets, we saw a family of six struggling to pay for their tickets. It was a man, two teen boys, a woman, a toddler, and a teen girl. We didn’t know how much they needed but we gave them the money for our tickets we were only going pay $5.00 each. Then set off to the mall and just stroll around, while walking around the mall, we saw the family come out they thanked us, but unfortunately what we gave them wasn’t enough for all of their tickets. The family invited us to walk around with them, we accepted gratefully. We walked past some of the shops, just walking in silence, my friend Dakota introduced us. Their names were Nick, Ryan, Geo, Clara, Cleo and Michelle. It was Geo’s fourth birthday and they wanted to take him to the movies to make his birthday special. Instead of going to the movies, we went to get pretzels and really just walked around the store talking. About two hours later, we decided to go to Huckleberry Railroad, with permission from our parents, (they also met the family). And we were able to ride the train, get on the ferris wheel, eat sugary sweets, and our mission to give Geo a good time paid off. I still keep in contact with Cleo and we sometimes plan hangouts at her or even my house. I gave them a Blueberry Card and told them to do a random act of kindness then give it away.

So two days ago, my mom picked me up from school early. She picked me up from school at around 1:30. We went to a lot of places, so we didn’t come home until almost around 4:00. Then my mom told me to go inside and relax while she shovels the snow inside. And it was a lot of snow. So instead of being inside, I went outside to help my mom shovel the snow. I also helped her put in the groceries and put the good away. And I decided to give her my Blueberry Card! She didn’t know what it was so I had to explain it to her. Then she told me she loves me and thank you.

A couple months ago, my mom quit her job to work somewhere else. And at the time, my dad wasn’t working because it was snowing a lot, and my dad is a construction worker. So, then my dad helps my mom work and she works at night around 10:30pm, and they come back around 1:30 am. So, they never let me go with them to help because I was too little they say. But I didn’t care, so I decided to go with them and didn’t take no for an answer. So when we got there I did mostly everything even though they said to just broom the hallways. So then after they thanked me for everything and I gave them my Blueberry Card.

So a few days ago, it was my sister’s 17th birthday. Sadly, our family doesn’t have enough money, but we were still able to buy a cake. My mom gave my sister a bag of candy and chips with a Blueberry Card and a balloon. So, I decided to do something I thought I would never do! I got some of my money that I had left, which was about $10, and I got her some hot chips and some candy and cookies and a Blueberry Card that everyone could sign. Then when she opened it, I also had my bb Blueberry Card, she actually thanked me and said I can’t believe you actually did this for me. And I didn’t do it because I needed to use a Blueberry Blueberry Card, I did it because I wanted my sister to actually be happy!

Yesterday I took care of my baby cousin. I felt like I was a mother for a day. I wasn’t mad it wasn’t bad because I really adore him. I didn’t like changing his diaper! I fed him and he went to sleep on me. It was fun taking care of him because I like his cuddles. I was teaching him how to walk he would just try to stand on his own. I am happy I helped my grandparents with the baby. I gave them a Blueberry Blueberry Card and asked them to do something nice for someone else.

My grandma was walking upstairs with a box of clothes and she dropped them. I helped her pick up the clothes she said thank you. I remembered the Blueberry Card and I gave it to her and she asked me what it was for. I told her about the Blueberry Card and what it meant. I told her she could do an act of kindness and pass the Blueberry Card to someone else. She said she would.

A week ago, I helped the Grandma that came in to help in Ms. Barnes class. She was trying to carry the water bottle crate and all the bottles were full. My mom and I were going to Kroger’s to do some grocery shopping. It was raining and I saw an older man in the rain struggling to put his wife’s wheelchair in the back of their truck. So, I asked my mom if she could pull over so I could help him. When she did, I got out and helped him put the wheelchair in the back. That is when he looked at me and smiled. That’s when I gave him my Blueberry Card and said have a nice day.

I was at Kroger with my auntie. I was going to pay for my stuff at the self-checkout. Then I saw an older lady in front of me struggling to put her bags in her cart. So, I put down my stuff and helped. Then I gave her my Blueberry Card and said have a nice day.

I was in church and I saw a lady with a baby in her hand struggling to clean up from breakfast. So, I decided to go and help her. We then took the centerpieces of the table, next was the tablecloth. We folded up the tables and put up the chairs. She looked at me and said thank you. I gave her my Blueberry Card and said you’re welcome.

I bought walking tacos for my football coach because he was moving to the other building. He has helped me so much with football, and he didn’t have lunch so I bought him lunch with my allowance. I gave him my Blueberry Card and told him to pay it forward.

After school, I went to Walmart to get some food. I saw this lady walking around with things in her hand but not a lot. I was walking down the aisle and she had dropped some of her food, so I picked it up and gave her a Blueberry Card. I asked if I could get her a cart, but she said no. She looked pretty happy to see a kid would help her pick up things that she had dropped.

I had gone to go get my haircut and my barber was working later than usual but he was about to leave that night and he told us to come in the morning. When I got there in the morning, I noticed that the hair he had cut the day before was still on the ground, so I swept the hair up. He tried to give me money, but I didn’t let him. I gave him a Blueberry Card and told him to do something for someone else instead.

I told him that you should not listen to people who are bullying you. I gave him a Blueberry Card. I told him to do a nice thing for someone and give them the Blueberry Card. He said he will use the Blueberry Card.

I was at home and I went to the table to do my homework from math class. I saw my younger brother struggling with his work, so I asked what homework he was doing. He said reading. I asked him if he wanted me to read it for him, so he just had to answer the questions. He said yes please! After that, I gave him the Blueberry Card and told him he had to do something nice for someone else and then give them the Blueberry Card. He said the next day that he gave the Blueberry Card to his friend after he helped him.

While I was at the store with my mom and siblings, me and my brother saw an elderly lady drop her purse. She was carrying too much stuff and she couldn’t reach her purse. Before I helped, I told my mom that I was going to help and she said okay and watched me from the store door. I walked over and picked the purse up for her and then helped her take her stuff to the car. When I took her stuff to the car, I gave her the Blueberry Card.

For my Blueberry Moment, I saw a girl in my homeroom who got picked on a lot about her clothes and shoes. They weren’t name brand and her family can’t afford much. So, I gave her a pair of my Jordans that I only had for a couple months. She was so happy when she found out they were for her. She had the biggest smile ever. The Jordans were pink and gray her favorite color.
